Greetings from Newfields, New Hampshire!
First and foremost, I wanted to take a moment to mark the celebration of Juneteenth, which U.S. Congress and President Joe Biden officially cemented as a federal holiday this week. This recognition of the end of slavery and a step to equality is long overdue, but it also gives Americans a chance to reflect on where we have been and continue advancing various conversations and initiatives to ensure all people are treated equal every day.
I'm going to use the rest of my time with the pen this week to do a little extra promotional work for an upcoming event courtesy of some familiar faces. Jennifer Bryant, Ryan Chiavetta and I will be making our IAPP LinkedIn Live debuts in a new program, "Private Eyes," June 23.
The best way to describe this new little venture we are embarking on is something straight out of Sunday morning cable news programming. I'm partial to ABC's "This Week with George Stephanopoulos," which aims to give you a rundown of the week's U.S. and world news cycles, as well as previewing what's on the horizon for the week to come. The "Powerhouse Roundtable" feature is a staple of the show each week. If you haven't seen it, four panelists, which regularly include former politicians, advocates and journalists, engage with their insights and opinions on the various current events.
What we'll be bringing to viewers next week will somewhat resemble that roundtable format. Jennifer, Ryan and I have worked tirelessly to sharpen our reporting skills and cultivate reliable, knowledgeable sources across various privacy and data protection topics during our respective tenures with the IAPP. The plan is to put the hard work on display beyond what you're reading on our website. We'll try to pull back the curtain on our journalistic process a bit as we discuss some of our most recent work. Additionally, we'll dissect the big news from recent editions of the IAPP Daily Dashboard and preview what's new for original content in the latest installment of The Privacy Advisor.
What I look forward to most with all this is the opportunity the writers will have to interact with our readership. The hope is to set aside some time during this session to address questions and comments we hope viewers will bring to the table along the way. I view it as a chance for feedback we don't normally get besides click rates and the occasional comment on our stories.
I think I speak for Jennifer and Ryan when I say we hope you folks come along for the ride Tuesday and walk away more informed and entertained than you were when you queued us up.
