In two weeks’ time, the largest gathering of privacy pros in Canada will be concluding, and I hope you can be a part of it. There’s still a bit of time to register. Just click here.

I’m currently working on the format for this year’s Commissioner’s Game Show. And I’m driving my family a little crazy as, closer to the conference date, I agonize just a bit over the format. It’s always a fine balance between being informative, entertaining and endearing (I hope). We get to see a lighter side of our regulators, and that’s a good thing for the industry.

This year, we’re going to have two teams in our Game Show: One team will have former commissioners David Loukidelis, Frank Work, Chantal Bernier and Jennifer Stoddart; the other team will include current commissioners Jill Clayton, Catherine Tully, Michael McEvoy and Federal Deputy Brent Homan. We will pit them up against each other in a privacy trivia challenge in which we will tackle issues like trans-border data flows (and the new shift in position between former and current commissioner views), breaches and powers. Surely these topics will evoke some interesting dialogue onstage!

It is a real tribute to our commissioners (past and present) that they agree to this event, and it is unique to Canada that we have such approachable and good-hearted regulators.

So, after catching up on this week’s privacy news, make sure you register (if you haven’t already) for the Symposium, and get your popcorn ready! See you soon!
