The International Association of Privacy Professionals has announced its executive committee for 2020, as well as three new additions to the organization's board of directors.
Naspers Global Head of Data Privacy Justin Weiss, CIPP/A, CIPP/E, CIPP/US, CIPM, FIP, who is based in Hong Kong and served as vice chairman of the board in 2019, has been appointed the board’s chairman for 2020. Pfizer Chief Privacy Officer Patrice Ettinger, CIPP/US, who served as treasurer in 2019, is now vice chairman, while Refinitiv CPO Vivienne Artz takes on the role of treasurer, and Ice Miller Attorney Stephen Reynolds, CIPP/US, is now secretary.
“2020 promises to be an exciting year of great expansion for our profession, with important work to be done by privacy professionals — in dialogue with one another — across many cultures and on all continents,” Weiss said. “Our community defines itself, supports itself and improves itself with the benefit of multiple viewpoints and stakeholders, which is why we are so fortunate to welcome such an accomplished trio of privacy leaders from across the globe to our board this year.”
Joining the 12-member board are Perkins Coie Partner Dominique Shelton Leipzig, CIPP/US, Vodafone Global Privacy Officer Mikko Niva and eBay CPO Anna Zeiter, CIPP/E, CIPM.
Shelton Leipzig, who co-chairs Perkins Coie’s Ad Tech Privacy & Data Management group, has been recognized as a “Woman Leader in Tech Law” by The Recorder and one of the most influential lawyers in digital media and e-commerce law by the Los Angeles Business Journal.
“The IAPP is synonymous to me with thoughtful insights, leadership and innovation in the privacy landscape. It is such an honor to join this accomplished board and make a deeper contribution to this dynamic organization that I have grown to admire and respect for so long,” Shelton Leipzig said. “I am looking forward to working together with the board to help our members navigate the ever-evolving privacy and data management landscape. I am hopeful that through this process, the IAPP can be a beacon for allowing the business community, consumer groups, regulators and legislators to discuss and align on important issues for our times.”
Niva was presented the "Data Protection Officer of the Year Award for Excellence in Data Protection" in 2019 by the U.K. Information Commissioner, and during his tenure at Vodafone, the company received the 2019 HPE-IAPP Award for Most Innovative Privacy Program.
Zeiter has led eBay’s Global Privacy Program since 2018. She sits on the IAPP's European Advisory Board, is a committee member of the DPO Network in Dublin, Ireland, and serves on the editorial board of Delphi, The Interdisciplinary Review of Emerging Technologies. She is also an assistant professor at the University of Bern in Switzerland.
IAPP President and CEO J. Trevor Hughes, CIPP, said the organization is fortunate to have "tremendous leaders" joining its board of directors.
“2020 will be an important year in privacy. We see major developments all around the world and the privacy profession has never been more integral to the digital economy,” he said.
