The Italian data protection authority (Garante) has established three resolutions in the field of international data processing and transfer.
Cooperation between data protection authorities is increasing when it comes to enforcement profiles. In one case, a data subject made a claim against Italian company “Badoo” for publishing fake profiles by a third party on a UK social network.
The company agreed to remove the profiles, but the Garante reserved the right to ask the UK Information Commissioner’s Office to investigate the potential for additional data breach profiles.
Meanwhile, the Garante has asked the U.S. Federal Trade Commission to investigate Couchsurfing.com on how the site carries out personal data processing after individuals complained about recent changes to its privacy policy which will strip users of control over their personal data, e-mail and pictures managed through the site, according to Panetta. Finally, the Garante has asked Canada’s privacy commissioner to identify whether a Canadian company manages the service provided by trovanumeri.com after citizens have complained of unauthorized disclosure of their personal information on the web.
