The wave of state AI regulation that was expected after Colorado passed its first-in-the-nation AI law in 2024 has not materialized. That does not mean, however, that states were not active on AI issues. In 2025, we saw states consider hundreds of AI-related bills, finish regulations that address AI, and debate how to best protect consumers and foster innovation. Experts from state government, civil society, and industry on this panel will share their insights on how states addressed AI last year and make predictions for how states will forge ahead on AI.

What you will learn:

  • An overview of state legislative and regulatory activity on AI, including on high-risk uses, frontier models, training data transparency, deepfakes, and more.
  • The common ground among state government, civil society, and industry stakeholders in crafting reasonable safeguards for AI tools.
  • How state legislators are addressing AI during the 2026 legislative sessions.
