Data Protection in Latin America: Insights and Perspectives from Regulators
Monday, 30 March
17:00 - 18:00 EDT
Intermediate level
Data protection regulation in Latin America is evolving rapidly, driven by a combination of national developments and regional cooperation. Join this panel of enforcement leaders from Brazil’s National Data Protection Authority, Argentina’s Access to Public Information Agency, and Ecuador’s Data Protection Authority, all members of the Ibero-American Network of Data Protection Authorities, or RPID, that is actively shaping the region’s regulatory landscape. Brazil currently holds the RIPD presidency, while Argentina serves on its executive committee and is leading the creation of the Ibero-American Data Protection Observatory. The observatory is a new technical and operational space for collaborative monitoring, analysis, and documentation of major regional trends. Panelists will share first-hand insights into their latest enforcement priorities, legislative updates, and cross-border cooperation initiatives. They will also discuss the challenges of harmonizing data protection standards, addressing emerging risks such as artificial intelligence and cybersecurity, and fostering regulatory convergence across diverse legal systems.
What you will learn:
- Understand current enforcement priorities in Brazil, Argentina, and Ecuador, and how they are shaping national compliance landscapes.
- Explore the role of the Ibero-American Network of Data Protection Authorities in fostering cross-border cooperation and harmonization of data protection standards.
- Identify emerging challenges such as AI, cybersecurity, and cross-border data flows, and gain practical strategies to address them within diverse legal frameworks.
