GPA: Privacy-Enhancing Technologies: Solving the Data Sovereignty Dilemma
Wednesday, 18 Nov.
13:30 - 14:30 CET
Beginner level
Part of the Global Privacy Assembly Open Programme.
As governments tighten control over data flows and trust in global platforms is tested, companies and institutions face a critical challenge: how to unlock the value of data without moving, exposing or compromising it. This session brings together leaders from industry to explore how privacy-enhancing technologies are being deployed to address real-world challenges, from data localization and cross-border transfers to privacy-safe advertising and measurement. Drawing on real world examples, which combine multiple techniques to balance privacy, utility and efficiency, panelists will unpack where PETs are working in practice and where they are not. The discussion will bridge technical innovation and policy reality, examining how PETs can enable compliant data collaboration, reduce geopolitical risk and move companies and institutions from trust claims to verifiable trust.
What you will learn:
- Examine how PETs are being used to solve real challenges, such as cross-border data restrictions, data localization and privacy-safe advertising measurement.
- Explore how PETs enable data collaboration without sharing raw data, supporting compliance and innovation.
- Gain insight into how regulators are viewing PETs as part of the solution to sovereignty and trust challenges.
