Cybersecurity Law Center Advisory Board roles and expectations

The IAPP Cybersecurity Law Center provides networking, education, certification, and resources for lawyers and nonlawyers navigating the intersection of cybersecurity, law, and regulatory risk. The complex field of cybersecurity law and policy has become a distinct discipline integral to organizations' legal compliance, data governance and risk mitigation strategies. The Cybersecurity Law Center provides those responsible for cybersecurity and regulatory risk management a way to engage with each other about organizational compliance expectations, legal requirements, and policy developments. Board expectations

  • Serve a two-year term.
  • Maintain an active IAPP membership.
  • Participate in scheduled meetings (approximately once per quarter via teleconference).
  • Assist with programming and content development in cybersecurity law.
  • Identify and advise on specific needs for cybersecurity law, policy and regulatory risk professionals.
  • Assist with development of key relationships for cybersecurity law.
  • Complete assigned tasks (undertaken on a voluntary basis) in a timely manner.
  • Keep information shared among advisory board members confidential.
  • Advocate for the IAPP.
  • Embrace and promote new voices in the community and diversity in perspectives.
  • Contribute written content for IAPP publication where appropriate.
  • Support and field inquiries about IAPP programs.
  • Attend in person meetings at IAPP conferences (optional).

Selection criteria

Boards are selected with the goal of creating a balanced working group based on experience level, industry sector, geographic location and area of expertise. Considerations for selection include:

  • Continuous membership with the IAPP.
  • Knowledge and experience in relevant cybersecurity law and policy issues and best practices.
  • Demonstrated leadership in the cybersecurity ecosystem.

IAPP advisory board members are not agents or employees of the IAPP and cannot act on IAPP’s behalf or enter into any binding agreements.

Decisions, actions and opinions expressed by advisory board members are a reflection of their role as an IAPP volunteer, and not solely as a member or privacy and data protection professional.
