The IAPP and the University of Maine School of Law pursue cy pres funds to support rising professionals in the fields of privacy, AI governance, cybersecurity law and digital responsibility, and generate trusted educational resources. Together, we support the member class as a cy pres recipient in cases pertaining to AI harm, data breaches, privacy law violations and data mismanagement that violates consumer privacy and similar complaints.

The IAPP and Maine Law support the growth and development of digital responsibility professionals. For more than two decades, the IAPP has grown to support 90,000-plus professionals. Through its Center for Law + Innovation, Maine Law is a leading institution for legal professionals focusing on digital policy and was one of the first U.S.-based schools to offer a J.D. Certificate in Information Privacy Law.

Student engagement

The IAPP supports 100+ schools and approximately 3,000 active student members, with more than 600 students pursuing certification. Maine Law offers a wide array of coursework in data governance and a J.D. certificate in information privacy law.

Scholarships and professional development

The IAPP offered more than 300 event scholarships in 2025. Maine Law provides students with financial support to attend conferences and also hosts the annual Summer Privacy Institute and the Privacy in Practice Conference.
