U.S. Reps. Anna Eshoo, D-Calif., and Zoe Lofgren, D-Calif., refiled the Online Privacy Act. The comprehensive federal privacy proposal offers user data rights, requires limitations and obligations on data practices and establishes a data protection authority. The bill also sets a legislative floor that allows state legislatures to go beyond OPA provisions as they see fit. Californian members of U.S. Congress, including Eshoo and Lofgren, are against the proposed American Data Privacy and Protection Act for its preemption and lack of a legislative floor.
