The U.S. Senate confirmed Sharon Bradford Franklin and Beth Williams as chair and member, respectively, of the U.S. Privacy and Civil Liberties Oversight Board. Members Ed Felten and Travis LeBlanc congratulated Franklin, former co-director of the Security and Surveillance Project at the Center for Democracy and Technology, and Williams, who was a partner at Kirkland & Ellis, saying their appointments will “enable us to fully execute on our mission of ensuring that privacy and civil liberties are safeguarded alongside the government’s efforts to prevent terrorism.”
