The Court of Justice of the European Union ruled verbally informing someone of a person's criminal conviction falls under EU privacy law and should not happen without the requestee demonstrating a special interest. The ruling comes out of a case at the Court of Appeal of Eastern Finland where a court refused to give entertainment company Endemol Shine Finland Oy data on a person's criminal record.
