Morrison & Foerster has announced the addition of Lokke Moerel and Alex van der Wolk to its Global Privacy and Data Security Group in Europe. Both join the firm from De Brauw Blackstone, and van der Wolk will become a partner and Moerel will be senior of counsel, a role that will allow her to continue teaching and to work on cutting edge privacy/data protection issues. Moerel, who focuses on data protection law and information/communications technology, heads a working group of chief privacy officers and in-house lawyers at leading European multinationals that developed a new set of binding data protection rules in consultation with the Dutch Data Protection Authority.

Noted cybersecurity expert Mary Landesman has been appointed by Norse, a prominent player in the live attack intelligence business, as senior data scientist. With more than 20 years in the field, Landesmen brings valuable experience on how to analyze large quantities of data and identify threats and potential threats. In 2009, she discovered the Gumblar malware and in 2013 she was able to detect the Darkleech malware, uncovering a host of compromised servers. Landesman also created the first annual Microsoft Security Intelligence Report, and has published several security focused articles. In May 2014, Intelligent Defense featured her as one of “3 Women Leading the Way in IT Security.” Landesman was senior security researcher at Cisco Systems before she joined Norse.
