Welcome to this week's issue of the Digest.

Most definitions of adventure encapsulates a concept of ‘an unusual, exciting and possibly dangerous activity.’  This issue gives us yet another excellent  demonstration of how diverse and dynamic data protection and privacy issues are or can be.  It also demonstrates the inherent  dangers and the need for balance.

We have timely reminders about important regulatory changes in China, Chile,  the U.S. and Canada counterbalanced by developments in technology and security that in part drive these regulatory responses.  Articles on new technologies prompt us to consider the boundaries  when implementing biometric forms of facial recognition, such as Apple’s new photo system or  voice monitoring tools as advocated by Moscow-based suppliers such as InfoWatch.

This issue also showcases some exciting privacy careers:  Congratulations to Diana Marina Cooper  and her work with  PrecisionHawk and Karen Neuman, who leaves the U.S. Department of Homeland Security next month to join a firm in private practise.  On matters careers and building your knowledge and skills — don’t  miss out on reading about the  new CISCO scholarship, new podcasts, accreditations systems and a wonderful conference in Singapore for APEC.

Here is to more privacy adventures awaiting  us in July — enjoy!
