So, let me first apologize if these opening remarks to this week’s digest are a little short. It’s late into the night of the Symposium, and my day has been filled with meetings, sessions, meetups and gatherings. Not to mention the countless sessions I tried to attend (I wish I could clone myself) and, of course, the Commissioner’s Game Show.

Earlier today, we will have heard from Max Schrems and Lisa Austin in the general session. Their comments will be juxtaposed against the keynotes from yesterday, Daniel Therrien and Amy Yee. All were thought-provoking, entertaining and educational. We heard an endearing talk by Commissioner Therrien about the need for rights-based privacy laws all while being fully aware that his ongoing consultation about TBDF required him to dawn his “bulletproof vest” for his appearance. At the same time, we heard from Amy about how if you change your mindset just a little bit, you can achieve great transformative conclusions to the problems you are facing. Messages that resonate, for sure.

One of the highlights for me was the honest and real loving connection we got to witness between David Loukidelis, former commissioner for British Columbia, and Jill Clayton, current commissioner for Alberta. It was the best moment of all our Game Shows, and I’m grateful for them and all the participants for showing that they are real people tackling real problems and doing their best. After all, that’s what we’re all doing.

Next year, I hope to see you here, too.  Let’s make it a date!

Have a great weekend.
