The Justice Committee was appointed by the House of Commons to examine, among other areas, the policy of the Ministry of Justice and associated public bodies. It is currently carrying out an inquiry into the European Union data protection framework proposals.
The committee began its work by issuing a call for evidence with a deadline of 20 August for written submissions. A total of 46 organisations responded, and their responses have now been published on the committee's website. Three open sessions during which oral evidence was to be heard were planned for September.
During the first session on 4September, evidence from the Association of Chief Police Officers' Director of Information Ian Readhead, Microsoft Director of Privacy EU Affairs Jean Gonié and UK Information Commissioner Christopher Graham, among others, was heard.
FFW’s Victoria Hordern attended the first meeting and her brief summary of the discussions is available on FFW's Privacy and Information Law Blog.
