The ICO has indicated its areas of focus for 2012.

First, its Information Rights Strategy sets out how it will go about "ensuring…long term effectiveness in bringing about good information rights practice," namely by focusing on the “Five Es,” to Educate, Empower, Engage, Enable and Enforce.

The strategy also sets out that it will review evidence from its casework to identify priority sectors for attention, those being Health, Credit and Finance, Criminal Justice, Internet and Mobile Services and Security.

Finally, the information commissioner's blog entry warns against organisations undermining the importance of personal information rights in the current economic recession, cautioning that damage to brand reputation as a result of a data privacy breach would simply cause added problems.
