The Department for Business, Innovation and Skills told an industry roundtable that a Statutory Instrument implementing the E-Privacy Directive, including the new rules governing the acceptance of cookies, will be brought before Parliament by the end of April and that there is no option to postpone this timeline.

It was also confirmed that BIS’s preferred approach for collecting appropriate consent from individuals is via “enhanced” browsers settings, which provide users with greater information on the use of cookies and a mechanism for indicating consent, but it warned that due to the variation in types of cookies, there will not be a single solution.
