The European Commission's announcement that it will consider simplifying regulatory regimes, notably in relation to data and technology, seems to open Pandora's box. Is it a chance to draw lessons from what works well and what does not? Does a 3-speed approach to data protection, as suggested recently by a prominent MEP, make sense? Can we improve the way in which the GDPR fits with AI issues and ePrivacy issues? Will simplification end up making things more complex? And where would simplification be helpful, be it in terms of law, interpretation or enforcement? Join our panelists — prominent voices who have significant experience in the way both larger and smaller businesses handle data and in legal compliance efforts, as well as a former regulator with great expertise regarding the ways in which companies tackle regulation. Together, let us consider what regulatory simplification means and how to make it workable.

What you will learn:

  • Suggested points of attention for simplification based on practical experience and an international outlook.
  • Areas where simplification might create additional issues.
  • Discussion of the situations where difficulties arise not from the law but from enforcement choices.
