Shields Up: Perspectives on Cybersecurity Best Practices in Canada
Tuesday, 5 May
09:00 - 10:00 EDT
Intermediate level
This session will explore recent cybersecurity incidents affecting governments, examining how adversaries exploit vulnerabilities to disrupt services and access data. The panelists will share lessons from investigating breaches and managing incident response, including how privacy regulators, national cyber security experts and government leaders in technology and data support institutions and affected individuals across Canada. The discussion will move beyond technical failures to governance issues: what regulators and cybersecurity experts expect of privacy and security leaders in the public service, practical measures to improve resilience and how a strong privacy posture can mitigate risks. Attendees will gain actionable insights to strengthen both compliance and protection in their own companies and institutions.
What you will learn:
- The most common and emerging cyber threats facing Canadian public institutions, and practical steps companies and institutions can take to reduce their exposure.
- The expectations of privacy regulators and the key recommendations of the CCCS, and the GC CIO for preventing, detecting and responding to incidents.
- How regulators, the GC CIO and CCCS coordinate across jurisdictions during large-scale incidents, and what institutions can expect in terms of guidance, oversight and collaboration.
