Can We All Get Along? Where Government & Companies Agree on AI Governance
Friday, 19 Sept.
09:00 - 10:00 EDT
Intermediate level
Much of what is written these days about AI governance posits a sizeable chasm between what regulators want and what the private sector thinks is either necessary or a good idea. But is the divergence of views really so wide? This panel brings together leading voices from a range of companies large and small to explore areas of consensus in the rapidly evolving landscape of AI governance.
The discussion will highlight where government and industry are finding common ground, the practical realities of implementing responsible AI governance, and what the future may hold for alignment on practical AI governance that serves everyone’s interests. Panelists will discuss topics such as where transparency and explainability are truly effective and beneficial; risk management and mitigation strategies that actually work and are not empty “check the box” exercises; the role of voluntary standards in an ecosystem moving as rapidly as AI; and how enforcement and compliance can be harmonized to foster innovation while protecting the public interest.
What you will learn:
- Core principles of AI governance for the government and the private sector.
- Lessons from recent efforts to slow down the adoption of AI governance regulatory requirements in Europe, the U.S. at the federal level, and in U.S. states.
- What companies wish regulators would understand, and what regulators wish companies would do.
