While innovations across artificial intelligence use cases continue, burning controversies underlying the development of AI tools and services are approaching key inflection points. As a prime example, many legal and policy questions that arise from the training of AI on publicly available data, questions surrounding copyright protection, data ownership, and fair use have become increasingly pressing, including in recent high-profile litigation.

What you will learn:

  • How copyright laws apply to AI training on public data.
  • The implications of The New York Times v. OpenAI lawsuit and similar legal challenges.
  • Policy considerations for balancing innovation with intellectual property rights.

The Chatham House Rule will be observed for this session.
