The U.S. Federal Trade Commission barred data broker X-Mode Social and its successor company, Outlogic, from selling sensitive location data as part of a first-of-its-kind settlement. The FTC alleged the company sold precise location data that could track individuals' visits to medical and reproductive health clinics, domestic abuse shelters and other locations. Per the settlement, the company must delete all sensitive location data it previously collected and develop an easy opt-out system for consumers to withdraw consent for geolocation tracking.
