Video conferencing provider Zoom launched several new privacy features for European Economic Area users, The Record reports. Customers who pay for Zoom’s enhanced service in the EEA will be allowed to localize their data within the EEA and it would only be shared with U.S.-based Zoom engineers "in individual cases and exceptional circumstances," which could include sharing with Zoom’s Trust and Safety team. However, the decision to only offer data localization for paid users could invite regulatory scrutiny from EU member states' data protection authorities.
