WISP, or Women in Security and Privacy, announced it now has more than 700 members nationwide and continues to promote "the development, advancement, and inclusion of women in the information security and privacy fields." Project Director Kenesa Ahmad, CIPP/US, said, “I’m proud to announce another critical milestone. WISP has achieved official status as a fiscally sponsored project of Community Initiatives, an SF Bay Area 501(c)(3). With our new nonprofit status, WISP can now expand its current fundraising activities and membership offerings.” The organization’s 2016-2017 plan includes advancing its peer-to-peer mentorship program, establishing more female leaders in STEM fields, the launching of a “Hacker Girls” initiative to educate female students on careers in privacy, continuing its career advancement programs and networking initiatives, and working with the #EqualRespect program to ensure balanced representation of women at conferences.
