Vermont Attorney General TJ Donovan is asking lawmakers to revise a moratorium on the police use of facial recognition technology to enable its help in solving child sexual exploitation cases, VTDigger reports. The ban, issued in 2020, prevents police from using technology that Detective Matthew Raymond, commander of Vermont’s Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, said has been used for years in such cases. American Civil Liberties Union of Vermont Director Falko Schilling raised concerns that the proposed language does not prohibit police from using software to try and identify a suspect.
