U.K. Information Commissioner John Edwards issued an updated response to the proposed Data Protection and Digital Information Bill, which has been carried over to the 2023-2024 parliamentary session. Edwards said he supports the bill as it improves the "effectiveness of the data protection regime in the U.K., upholding rights for individuals, providing regulatory certainty and clarity for organisations, and improving the way the ICO regulates." However, he said he had lingering concerns about proposals to require certain information for "social security purposes."
