Following “engagement” with the oversight office for Ireland's Data Protection Commission, TikTok paused a privacy notice update planned in Europe under which it would no longer ask users for consent to receive targeted advertising, TechCrunch reports. A DPC spokesperson said the delay will allow the authority “to carry out its analysis.” A TikTok spokesperson said personalized advertising “provides the best in-app experience” and brings the platform “in line with industry practices.” Meanwhile, Spain’s data protection authority, the Agencia Española de Protección de Datos, announced it launched a preliminary investigation into TikTok’s privacy notice change.
