Digital Minister Audrey Tang said Taiwan needs an agency dedicated to personal data protection before electronic identification cards are introduced next year, Taiwan News reports. Tang said the agency could handle issues related to the Personal Data Protection Act and independently investigate eID incidents. The eID, which includes National Health Insurance Card and driver’s license data, is scheduled to launch in the first half of 2021, following a postponement due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
