The U.S. Supreme Court declined to hear a case calling for the release of redacted decisions by the Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Court that authorized expanded surveillance following the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks, The Wall Street Journal reports. Justices Neil Gorsuch and Sonia Sotomayor argued growing surveillance technologies and their impact on democracy merit Supreme Court review. American Civil Liberties Union Attorney Patrick Toomey said court opinions should be public, “not kept hidden from Americans whose rights hang in the balance.”
