In a letter to the Joint Parliamentary Committee, Bengaluru-based technology startups and developers raise concerns about ambiguous definitions, compliance costs and data localization within the proposed Personal Data Protection Bill. The letter notes that inhibiting the free flow of data would make work difficult for a large number of businesses. The group said the bill’s proposed requirements for businesses to hire a data protection officer and establish grievance redress processes will increase compliance costs, particularly for smaller businesses.
