U.S. Federal Trade Commission Acting Chairwoman Rebecca Kelly Slaughter issued a statement on how the Supreme Court of the United States' decision in the AMG Capital Management LLC v. FTC case affects the agency's enforcement capabilities. The Supreme Court ruled in favor of AMG Capital Management, which stole more than $1.3 billion from consumers through a payday lending scheme. "With this ruling, the Court has deprived the FTC of the strongest tool we had to help consumers when they need it most," Slaughter said. "We urge Congress to act swiftly to restore and strengthen the powers of the agency so we can make wronged consumers whole."
