U.S. Sen. Sherrod Brown, D-Ohio, released a draft for a proposed federal privacy law. The Data Accountability and Transparency Act of 2020 would prohibit any unlawful data collection and the use of facial recognition technology. The bill would also ban the use of data for discriminatory purposes, establish a federal agency dedicated to upholding citizens' privacy rights and gives state attorneys general more enforcement authority. DATA 2020 would also not preempt stronger state laws.
