Vice reports the U.S. Secret Service previously contracted with data intelligence company Babel Street to obtain phone location data from apps. Babel Street's Locate X anonymously tracks the location of mobile devices through data harvested from popular apps. The contract ran September 2017 to September 2018, and the Secret Service paid more than $1.9 million for the services. U.S. Sen. Ron Wyden, D-Ore., said he is probing Babel Street's data sales, but the company has been uncooperative.
