A recent study on the privacy policies of Pakistani corporations found that they lack transparency on how they handle consumer data, Digital Rights Monitor reports. The survey included eight businesses to find that while most had policies presented on their websites, only one had a privacy policy that was translated into Urdu. Also, the majority did not identify the third parties that had access to consumer data, nor did they identify their data retention period. In the study, the authors write that as Pakistan moves toward enacting data protection legislation, the study should serve as a baseline to “help all stakeholders understand the context and the situation better in order to formulate conducive, forward looking recommendations and inputs.”
