Royal Canadian Mounted Police in British Columbia’s Lower Mainland continue to track suspects based on cellphone location data, while a 2020 policy addressing privacy concerns remains to be finalized, The Globe and Mail reports. The technology has been in use since July 2005 and, according to an access-to-information request, the RCMP used it 112 times between July 2015 and March 2021. The 2020 draft policy states the technology is only to be used after obtaining a warrant or in "exigent circumstances."
