The City Council in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, is considering legislation that would ban police use of facial-recognition software and predictive policing technology, StateScoop reports. The bill would require the Pittsburgh Department of Public Safety to acquire City Council approval before obtaining or using either of the technologies and also require officials to disclose which employees would use the technology and for what purposes. The city’s police agency said it is not currently using either technology.
