June 8 marked the 70th anniversary of the publication of George Orwell’s "1984," and his son says the book is still as relevant today as when it first published, The I Newspaper reports. The anniversary comes during increasing concern over how social media and other technologies are using personal data. “He didn’t predict the internet but he predicted something close to it,” Orwell’s son Richard Blair said. “You only have to put so much information in and all these big businesses have all your details.” Editor's Note: The IAPP features a "1984" exhibit in its Portsmouth, New Hampshire, office.
