- The Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada launched an investigation into the surveillance practices of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police it attempted to keep secret from the public, The Tyee reports. The agency will look into the RCMP's Tactical Internet Operational Support unit and Project Wide Awake, an advanced web-monitoring program.
- The OPC also found technical and administrative gaps helped to cause the 2019 Desjardins data breach that affected 9.7 million individuals, a violation of the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act.
