The Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada will appeal the Federal Court of Canada's rejection of the OPC's 2019 case alleging Meta's Facebook violated the Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act. Privacy Commissioner Philippe Dufresne said the filing to the Federal Court of Appeal seeks to uphold "fundamental privacy rights of Canadians and their ability to participate with trust in our digital society." Dufresne added the Federal Court ruling "raises important questions with respect to the interpretation and application of privacy law."
