The proposed EU Artificial Intelligence Act "must remain flexible" to be able to evolve with new developments in technology using a risk-based approach, Centre for Information Policy Leadership Director of Privacy Policy Natascha Gerlach, CIPP/E, writes. Gerlach said throughout the EU's legislative process, the draft text and "a record number of amendments" have the proposed legislation shifting "away from its original objectives." She argued the final iteration of the AI Act "should leave room for such evolution of understanding by focusing on the key AI issues, with a risk-based approach combined with organizational accountability requirements."
