In an op-ed for Tech Policy Press, Joe Jerome, CIPP/US, provides an advocate's perspective on state privacy bills proposed during 2021 state legislative sessions and how he remains "skeptical that we are on a path to actually addressing citizens’ concerns." Jerome discussed privacy laws passed in Colorado and Virginia, and a failure for the proposed Washington Privacy Act. He also offered a list of lessons learned from 2021, noting "we should be able to do better than what is under consideration by state legislatures."
