Officials did not consult New Zealand’s Office of the Privacy Commissioner over use of Israeli-U.S. firm Cobwebs Technologies and will not indicate why, RNZ reports. Immigration New Zealand admitted to hiring Cobwebs Technologies to scan people’s social media, while the Ministry of Business, Innovation and Employment would not disclose why it did not consult the privacy commissioner over a privacy impact assessment on the firm. While the technology has been in use for over two years, the MBIE said the use was limited.
