  • The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner along with state and territory privacy commissioners released COVID-19 privacy principles “to support a nationally consistent approach to solutions and initiatives designed to address the ongoing risks related to the COVID-19 pandemic.” The principles include data minimization, purpose limitation, security, retention/deletion and regulation under privacy law.
  • Australian Information Commissioner and Privacy Commissioner Angelene Falk published an article on the need to prioritize privacy in discussions around COVID-19 vaccine certificates for travel, work or other access.
  • New Zealand’s Office of the Privacy Commissioner published guidance to help organizations protect individual’s privacy while maintaining records for COVID-19 contact tracing purposes. Record keeping systems and processes must comply with the Privacy Act 2020, including securely maintaining the data and collecting only necessary information, the OPC said.
