The Office of the Australian Information Commissioner found the Department of Home Affairs violated the privacy of 9,251 detained individuals after their personal information was accidentally exposed. A detention report was mistakenly published on the department's website in 2014. In response, Australian Information Commissioner and Privacy Commissioner Angelene Falk ordered the department to offer financial compensation for noneconomic losses to the 1,297 members of a class-action lawsuit tied to the breach.
