The office of the Minister of Police for New Zealand claims law enforcement did not consult the office over its deployment of facial recognition technology, RNZ reports. The office reported communications regarding the potential use of facial recognition hadn't taken place since the start of 2019, and no approvals were sought by police. The lack of approval and examination by the office violates the police's own rules for adopting new technologies.
