In a letter to the Ministry of Local Government and District Affairs, Norway’s data protection authority, Datatilsynet, emphasizes the importance of strengthened cookie regulations. While the French data protection authority recently issued fines against Google and Facebook for cookie consent violations, Senior Legal Advisor Anders Obrestad said the practices in question would not have conflicted with Norwegian cookie regulations. “These cases illustrate how unsustainable the current regulation of cookies and similar sports technologies in Norway is for the privacy of internet users,” he said.
