Norway’s Ministry of Justice and Emergency Preparedness opened a consultation proposal on amendments that would allow the Norwegian Police Security Service to store and analyze openly available data for intelligence purposes. “This is a fundamental difference that requires a broad public debate, especially in light of the scope of the information gathering,” said Director of Norway’s data protection authority Datatilsynet, Bjørn Erik Thon, adding the proposal’s “lack of restrictions” could have negative privacy consequences.
