A New Zealand woman filed a complaint with the Office of the Privacy Commissioner after closed-circuit television footage captured at a bar was circulated on social media, the New Zealand Herald reports. The unnamed woman said she was assaulted by a man’s partner following an encounter filmed by a staff member who had been watching through the CCTV cameras. The staff member sent the footage to the man’s partner and it was also allegedly posted online. Privacy Commission guidelines say publicly released CCTV footage “may breach the Privacy Act.”
