Marriott International announced it has discovered a data breach within its Starwood reservation system, The Wall Street Journal reports. The hotel company said 500 million customers may have been affected by the breach, and, of those impacted, roughly two-thirds had their names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses and passport numbers compromised. Marriott said payment card information may have also been caught up in the breach. The hotel company said its internal tool alerted it to a potential breach of its U.S. database Sept. 8, and an investigation revealed its guest database may have been compromised since 2014. Marriott said it is working with law enforcement and regulatory authorities on the incident.
